Y E L R I H S (aka Shirley backwards) is an Asian Canadian electronic music producer, musician, DJ, composer, and live electronic performer based in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, specializing in techno and progressive electronic sound design. A classically trained pianist and former drummer, she merges music theory with modern production to craft groove-driven, uplifting dancefloor experiences powered by rolling basslines, driving rhythms, and evolving synth layers.
As a live electronic performer her current focus is integrating live looping and hybrid instrumentation to deliver expressive, performance-forward electronic sets that bridge the worlds of electronic music and live performance - a rare and captivating experience in the Canadian electronic music scene.
Driven by kindness and community, Y E L R I H S 's accomplishments include being featured on Blond:ish's Abracadabra TV and reaching #1 on Beatport with her track Robots Love to Dance (Dubtrxx Label). She was also a semi-finalist in the Miami Groove Cruise DJ Competition and has proudly supported global artists such as Eli & Fur, Genix, Sam Divine, Morgan Page, J. Worra, Ferreck Dawn, Nostalgix, Le Youth, Sydney Blu, Spencer Brown, and Qrion, and closed for Dillon Francis among others.
What sets Y E L R I H S apart as a female techno artist and live electronic act is her seamless integration of live looping and live instruments - creating a full sensory dancefloor experience that pushes boundaries. At the heart of her performance is a deep mindfulness of the groove and an unwavering belief that the night is about the experience - taking audiences on a carefully crafted journey of tension, release and connection that moves both body and soul.
She is a 2024 Femme House Fellow, a Cosmic Academy Alumni, the 2025 TD Music Artist in Residence at MacEwan University, and was proudly named an Icon of 2025 for her leadership in the Edmonton music scene and commitment to building a healthy and inclusive community by CJSR 88.5 FM. She is also a DJ mentor and co-founder of VIBECollective.ca, with a focus on empowering underrepresented voices in electronic music. Actively championing gender equity through organizations like Women in Music, Femme House, Change the Beat, and She-Q Audio, Y E L R I H S's work extends far beyond the decks.
Thoughtful and ever-evolving, Y E L R I H S crafts sets that spark connections on the dance floor, fostering a sense of belonging, while her mentorship and advocacy actively help grow a more inclusive electronic music community. Her newest track "LUNAR ORBIT" released via Aesthetics Records (Poznań, PL) is a peak-time techno journey about unity on the dance floor - capturing that moment when everyone moves as one. No walls, no separation. About being seen, feeling connected, and sharing the same orbit no matter where we come from.
